The largest in Latin America, just like the Metropolitan Cathedral in Mexico, the Amazon River or Mount Aconcagua, Salão Design opens next week the registration for a special competition held by Sindmóveis Bento Gonçalves, marking its 30th anniversary. The award, which encourages creativity, entrepreneurship and technological innovation through design, will receive entries of furniture and complement projects from August 8 to October 2.
The winners will be chosen in two phases by a judging committee formed by five professionals and academics. Firstly, competitors submit their graphic projects to be evaluated by the judging panel, who chooses the finalists. These finalists send their full-size pieces to the final judgment and announcement of the winners.
All projects entered in the Salão Design
As usual since 1996, all projects entered in the Salão Design Award also automatically compete for the Alternative Woods Award, a special category in partnership with the Brazilian Forest Service that recognizes the work of designers in the use of species not widely used. The winner of this category receives a special trophy and a one-week expedition through the premises of the Forest Products Laboratory of the SFB, and areas of forest management and wood processing in Amazônia.
Sponsored by Berneck and Interprint, the 2018 Salão Design Award will hold two product exhibitions: in March, during Movelsul Brasil 2018, a furniture fair (where the awards ceremony will also take place), and in August at the High Design – Home & Office Expo.
