A challenge for Brazilian design abroad

Sindmóveis Bento Gonçalves and Apex-Brasil, through the Orchestra Brasil Project, selects designers for a collection of products created exclusively for New York The management of the Orchestra Brazil Project, a partnership between Sindmóveis Bento Gonçalves and Apex-Brasil that promotes exports of suppliers to the furniture industry, is evaluating the projects received from the 26 Brazilian designers who are participating in the Design Challenge. The initiative will result in a unique line of products aimed at the New York market. The president of Sindmóveis Henrique Tecchio, explains that the goal of the action is to develop products that are marketable in the United States, creating a brand identity and a global perception of the Brazilian design. The project is part of the business plan created by the Orchestra Brasil Project for the competitive insertion of Brazilian design in the North American market. “The role of Sindmóveis and Apex-Brasil is to help develop a viable and sustainable business model for designers,” he says. The dynamics of this action is similar to a competition in which designers can enter up to five products with contemporary design and which express Brazilianness and are predominantly made from environmentally friendly and sustainable materials. From now on, North American consultants specialized in international strategies, product development and adaptation to markets will evaluate the projects submitted. The furniture and accessories approved by them will be part of the first Brazilian Collection brand, which will be launched in March 2015.  The Orchestra Brasil project dates back to 2006 and promotes the competitive inclusion of suppliers of the woodworking sector in the international market. Initially, it was intended to manufacturers of finishes, accessories, tools, machines, raw materials, chemicals and technology.  As of 2012, it also included design services.
