Sindmóveis advises the furniture industry regarding its compliance with labor laws

Notification issued to the furniture companies demands compliance with the provisions of the Labor Regulations and the Regulatory Norms of the Ministry of Labor and Employment   As a result of the Notification issued by the Labor Prosecutor – part of the Public Prosecutor’s Office and the Ministry of Labor and Employment, Sindmóveis Bento Gonçalves is hiring a consultancy firm specializing in Engineering and Occupational Health to provide initial guidelines to member companies to ensure compliance with the notification. The document presented at a public hearing in May, demands compliance of the furniture sector with the provisions of the labor legislation and other regulatory standards. The deadline for companies of the furniture center to fully comply with the six items emphasized in the document, prepared by the Labor Prosecutor – part of the Public Prosecutor’s Office is August 31. Starting in September, a group consisting of labor inspectors, representatives of Sitracom and Surveillance in Occupational Health will monitor the compliance with the regulations. Companies with irregularities will be notified and will have a deadline to adjust, and may subsequently be fined or even be the object of a public civil action for noncompliance. The President of Sindmóveis Henrique Tecchio, emphasizes the responsibility of the furniture industry regarding the health of workers and the reduction of employment related risks. According to Tecchio, ergonomics aspects deserve special attention. “The great advantage of the furniture center in Bento Gonçalves is that we have modern, fully-equipped manufacturing facilities. But we cannot forget that automation industry will never replace the human resources and that our companies have direct responsibility for the workers’ welfare,” he points out. The company hired by Sindmóveis will assist and guide the competent departments of all member companies on the subject. The objective is to reduce the number of accidents at work and occupational diseases taking place in the furniture industry. The numbers have been reduced in the sector in recent years, but the plan is to completely eliminate the incidence. Currently with nearly 300 manufacturing companies, the furniture center of Bento Gonçalves creates more than nine thousand jobs.
