São Paulo Design Weekend opens today with Sindmóveis attractions

On Wednesday, Aug 12, the attractions of the 4th São Paulo Design Weekend open to the public. Until next Sunday, more than 140 architecture, art and design events will take place throughout the capital of São Paulo. Sindmóveis Bento Gonçalves will have a 500-square-meter exhibit area for lectures and business meetings at the Jockey Club in São Paulo, at the Art Design Village. This initiative aims to further strengthen design as a competitive advantage for the furniture industry. Salão Design will be the highlight of this space, with the first exhibition of award-winning and finalist products out of Serra Gaúcha. Taking place in the center of the main Brazilian events focused on decoration, design and business, the award, which is already considered the largest of its kind in Latin America, gains more notoriety. The exhibition will showcase 64 products and the award ceremony will take place tonight – right after the international seminar “The form follows the material”, with lectures given by three important designers who research new materials for the furniture industry: Italian Clino Trini Castelli, Chilean Cristian Domínguez and Brazilian Brunno Jahara. Sponsored by Berneck, the Salão Design award has been held since 1988 totaling 12,058 products registered by students, professionals and manufacturing companies. Registrations for the 20th edition are open at www.salaodesign.com.br..   Design for export In a partnership with the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (Apex-Brasil) and Sindmóveis, the Jockey Club São Paulo also hosts the first exhibition of Projeto Raiz pieces, aimed at the export of design service. This project resulted from the Design Challenge, an initiative developed over the past year with studios aimed to provide experience in developing products from the perspective of an American team. The initiative resulted in a collection that represents the diversity of the Brazilian designer furniture consisting of 44 products of 18 design studios – 21 of these products are part of the exhibition. Besides the exhibition of products, 18 design studios will also have the opportunity to present their work to American guests in business meetings held on August 12 and 13 during a special Buyer’s Project
