This is the second participation in the Mexican fair, which will be held from August 29 – 31 Orchestra Brasil, a project to encourage exports, promoted by the Furniture Industry Association of Bento Gonçalves (Sindmóveis) in partnership with the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (Apex-Brasil), will take five member companies to Expo Nacional Ferretera, in Guadalajara, Mexico. This is the second participation of the project in the fair, which is in its 25th edition. Last year, the show featured 1,300 exhibitors – an increase of 15% compared to the previous edition – and more than 80,000 visitors from 30 countries. Expoferretera will be held from August 29 – 31.One of the priority markets of the Orchestra Brasil Project, Mexico has the second largest population and economy in Latin America, second only to Brazil. Mexican GDP per capita is US$15,300 – higher than in Brazil, which is approximately US$ 12,000 (IMF, 2013). Its furniture industry has grown in recent years employing about 45,000 people. The Mexican production reached its peak in 2012, when it grew by 6.4% over the previous year. In addition, the country is one of the top ten world importers of the products manufactured by the member companies of the Orchestra Brasil Project – accessories, components, tools, machines, raw materials, technology and design service for the furniture industry. The average annual growth of Mexican imports of inputs totaled 6% between 2005 and 2012. Although these data provide an indication of good opportunities for Brazil, the country has been growing at a slower pace than the rest of the market, and is not positioned as a leading supplier to Mexico. The Orchestra Brasil Project aims to promote the competitive inclusion of suppliers of inputs for the furniture industry in the foreign market. Currently, 77 manufacturing companies and 32 design studios take part in the initiative.
