Registrations for Salão Design 2015 open today

Major design award in Latin America will give R$ 205,000 in prizes to students, professionals and manufacturing companies   This Monday, September 1, the registrations for Salão Design 2015 will be open. The competition has been held by Sindmóveis Bento Gonçalves since 1988, aiming to encourage creativity, entrepreneurship and technological innovation of furniture and accessories through design. The 19th Salão Design Award will give R$ 205,000 in prizes in the professional, student and industry classes. Just like in the two previous editions, competitors can enter projects in seven categories: Furniture for Bedrooms, Furniture for Dining and Living Rooms, Furniture for Kitchens, Laundry Rooms and Bathrooms, Outdoor Furniture, and Home-Office and Office Furniture (including furniture for commercial and public areas), Home Utensils, and Lighting. During these 26 years, more than 11,200 projects entered the competition, which is considered the largest of its kind in Latin America. The director of Salão Design, Cristiane Silveira, highlights its growing international recognition, with a significant increase in the foreign participation. “We have noticed a very large movement of Latin American countries, which have sought to strengthen their design centers. In this respect, Salão Design is a very important showcase as it offers, in addition to cash prizes, wide promotion of the winners,” she points out. The Salão Design 2015 judging panel consists of five professionals working in the architecture and design fields lending their expertise to the award. Four members have already taken part in previous editions: architects Ilse Lang and Isabela Vecci and  designers Ivens Fontoura and Leonardo Lattavo. Gláucia Binda, representing the industry field, is participating for the first time.  The registration deadline for Salão Design is November 10, 2014. Entries will be evaluated in two phases, starting in November. In the first phase, the judging panel assesses the graphic projects entered and selects the finalists based on criteria that include project concept, form and function, ergonomics, degree of innovation and environmental sustainability. In the following phase, the finalists send their products or a life-size prototype to be judged in Bento Gonçalves. In addition to the cash prize, the award winners receive the Salão Design Stamp, which can be used on the product in question, in recognition of excellence in design. The entries selected to compete for the second phase will be announced in December 2014 and the participants will have to submit their products by May 2015. The award winners will be known in June next year. Registration and download of the regulations are available at www.salaodesign.com.br.
