Furniture industry turnover totals R$ 1.1 billion in the first half

In the first half of 2015, sales of the furniture industry in Bento Gonçalves fell by 4.7% in nominal terms, totaling R$ 1.1 billion. The number of jobs showed a negative balance of 459 jobs from January to June, representing a decrease of 5.5% in the workforce this semester. In 12 months, the furniture companies based in Bento Gonçalves closed more than 1,000 job openings. In Rio Grande do Sul, the turnover fell by 8.1%. Thus, the turnover of furniture companies based in Bento Gonçalves accounted for approximately 35% of furniture sales in the state. The overall decline of these indicators is consistent with the broad slowdown of the Brazilian economy and the severe crisis faced by the industry. According to IBGE data, the physical production of the furniture industry fell by 7.3% in the cumulative index of the year.
